Cold Weather Beauty Challenges

Fall is here and there’s no better time to re-evaluate your beauty routine and make some changes to reflect the shift in seasons.

Fall is an excellent time to turn over a “new leaf” by taking a fresh look at your skincare routine.

Face:
Start by evaluating your cool weather skin concerns.

Is your skin dull and damaged from summer sun exposure?

Has an oily T-zone been replaced by dry patches and flaky skin?

Are you struggling with blackheads, crow’s feet or other signs of aging?

If so, your skin will benefit from more hydrating formulas and gentle exfoliation that will help smooth your complexion.

Once you’ve determined your current skin needs, it’s time to put away summer-specific products like tinted moisturizer and treatments better suited to hot weather for fall-appropriate replacements.

Clarify your cold weather skincare priorities like anti-aging, acne or balancing combination skin – to include both short- and long-term goals for healthy skincare.

Hydrating cleanser:
Choose a fall-friendly cleanser that balances your complexion, such as Burt'sBees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser. It uses Clary Sage to hydrate skin while leaving it super soft and supple.

JuiceBeauty's Blemish Clearing Cleanser is designed for oily, combination, and blemish prone skin types. It deeply cleanses with coconut cleansers, purifies and detoxifies with organic sage, clarifies with organic lemon & cherry fruit acids and hydrates with algae and organic aloe.

Anti-aging serum:
If you skipped serum during the low-maintenance summer months, it’s time to amp up your routine with a formula that delivers a host of cold weather benefits.

Yalmehhyaluronic acid serum offers hydration, improves skin texture and brightness, and reduces appearances of dark circles and puffiness. See my review of Yalmeh products HERE!

If you are looking for a safe way restore damaged skin and get lasting results, CSCSVitamin C Serum quickly rejuvenates skin and gives it a lasting natural glow.

Eye Cream:
Add an eye cream to your beauty arsenal, such as Physician’sFormula eye cream

This boosts elasticity and firmness to improve the appearance of crow's feet and puffiness. It has illuminating properties improve the appearance of dark circles.

Make up:
Update your makeup palette for fall.

It’s time to put away your bronzers and light summer tones for colors that are more sophisticated and dramatic.

Revamp your makeup arsenal with new formulas that blend into the rich, bold colors of fall.

Foundation:
Fall usually means less sun and (for me) paler skin.

Look for a brightening formula that delivers a natural appearance, such as BareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation.

Bare Minerals is famous for their no-makeup look and feel. It has been clinically proven to improve the appearance of dark spots, skin brightness and skin texture.

Eye shadow:
It’s time to go with more sophisticated tones for fall.

Try TooFaced Chocolate bar eye shadow palette, which offers neutral eye shadow colors and also includes some delicate pinks and plums for a little extra drama on occasion.

Lipstick:
Phase out your nude and light pink lip shades and try something darker and bolder fitting the fall season.

Maybe something like a warm plum color from Pacifica'scoconut infused lip butter —pull the hair back, and leave the eyes minimal for the perfect fall look.

Nivea Lip Care hasA Kiss of Berry Swirl, have a subtle red tint but still have soft smooth lips.

Nails:
Fall is the perfect time to try out burgundy, blush and ruby shades.

Try Nailsinc + Alice + Olivia Set of Four Mini Nail Polishes which comes in a '70s-inpsired Fall 2015 collection. This set is complete with 'Gold Goddess' - a shimmery polish that has micro specs of glitter.

Cooler weather usually means one thing for your skin: dryness.

Hands:
Dry weather can have a harsh effect on your hands, sometimes even causing the skin to crack.

Wash your hand with a gentle cleanser like JergensExtra Moisturizing Hand Wash, followed by an oil-based moisturizer. This can help prevent the cold weather dryness.

Try a hand cream with oils and deep conditioners that will lock moisture in all day, such TheNaked Bee’s hand and body lotion, which contain honey, aloe vera and sunflower seed oil.

Feet:
Your feet are easy to overlook, but they also need some pampering hydration when the temperature starts to drop.

Try a foot cream that will both moisturize and soothe feet, like TreeHut Soothing Foot Cream, which has Shea Butter, Aloe, and Peppermint Oil to nourish and revitalize your feet.

Face:
To truly lock in moisture and banish impurities, try a hydrating face mask once or twice a week.

nüggHydrating gel face mask provides the perfect thirst relief for dry, dehydrated skin.

Aloe Juice soothes the skin and Olive/Cranberry/Grape and Linseed/Flaxseed Oil help strengthen the skin and act as antioxidants to protect against free radicals.

The Cup it comes in is made from recycled and recyclable plastic.

SephoraCollection Sleeping mask  relaxes the skin, achieving a brighter, more revitalized complexion while you sleep
.
Follow up with an all-day moisturizer.

Lips:
To ward off dry, chapped lips this season, invest in a rich, moisturizing lip balm and apply generously – and often.

Opt for a product that’s formulated to help your chapped lips fight the cold, my favorite is Burt’sBee’s Nourishing Lip Balm, which uses mango butter.

It soothes, moisturizes and protects to reveal smooth, healthy lips.

Body:
Hot water strips the skin of moisture, instead take short baths or showers using warm water, and then while the skin is still wet moisturize in order to lock in hydration.

You might want to trade in your daily lotion for a more moisture-rich cream that’s oil-based to help protect the skin.

100%PURE Nourishing Body Cream is a delicious smelling body cream that absorbs quickly and will immediately hydrate, soften and feed your skin nutrients for a healthy, glowing complexion - never any artificial fragrances, toxic preservatives, or any other unsafe ingredients.

EucerinCalming Crème Dry Skin Daily Body Moisturizer is a non-greasy moisturizer for daily use that breaks the itch-scratch cycle, and brings dry, itchy skin back under control.

Hair:
Just like the skin, your hair also needs hydration this fall season.

Hair masks like will help your hair recover from all the summer damage and prep your locks for the fall weather.

EvaNYC Therapy Session hair mask  and It’sa 10 Hair Mask deeply condition, repair and strengthen dry and damaged hair.

In addition to these hydration tips, try plugging in a humidifier in your home; this will moisten the air inside and make it easier for your skin to recover from the cool and dry weather outside.

Exfoliate.
Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can actually help protect your skin from harsh weather.
A gentle exfoliating product works to slough off dead skin cells.

Healthy, bright skin!

Understanding your skin type and choosing your exfoliation formula accordingly is the key.

Whatever your skin type and preference, be careful not to over-exfoliate, and always use a rich moisturizer.

My favorite scrubs are St.Ives Apricot facial scrub and LushCosmetics Dark Angels Cleanser for face and body.

Fight the frizz.
Prepare for hair obstacles by adding some anti-frizz defense to your hair care routine.

Try a conditioner like SexyHair Concepts Smooth Sexy Hair Conditioner uses coconut infused oil to provide smooth, sleek, nourished and shiny hair.

GarnierFructis Sleek & Shine system helps tame frizz, making hair sleek and shiny.

Now you can embrace the fall season looking flawless and put-together from head to toe!
