It's easy to get caught up in all the fancy verbiage and scientific
lingo, but we often forget that the next best medicine cabinet is actually our
kitchen pantry.
There are some seriously surprising foods, including egg whites, garlic, and wasabi, that contain healing and revitalizing properties to improve your skin and hair.
There are some seriously surprising foods, including egg whites, garlic, and wasabi, that contain healing and revitalizing properties to improve your skin and hair.
Here are some items that you can use at home or buy at your favorite
store that will benefit the skin.
CHAMOMILE TEA BAGS
If you’re plagued by dark and puffy under-eye circles, help comes in
the form of your morning beverage. Tea bags contain two important compounds –
caffeine and tannins (anti-inflammatory astringents) – that reduce those puffy
areas.
At home:
Steep your tea bags in boiling water for five minutes, pop them in the fridge to cool, and then do a
little at-home spa with each bag covering an entire eye area.
Chamomile is best because of its added anti-inflammatory properties.
Your tired eyes will be instantly refreshed.
Store bought:
ALBABOTANICA HAWAIIAN EYE GEL uses soothing aloe and green tea antioxidants
help calm puffiness. Cucumber, chamomile and kelp extracts help firm and tone
for a look that's wide awake and refreshed.
BASIL
We always knew basil was a delicious in tomato sauce, but for our
hair?!
At home:
Crush up fresh basil leaves mix with water to create a paste – apply
the paste to the hair, wait for 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly, shampoo and
condition - perfect for repairing dry and dull sun-damaged hair.
Store bought:
HERBALESSENCES WILD NATURALS DETOXIFYING CONDITIONER Infuses hair with a
refreshing scent of Thai lemon basil essences, it revitalizes your luscious locks
and softens hair – great product for $3.99!
GARLIC
Garlic is known to ward off Dracula, but the cloves of this pungent
ingredient can also scare off the unfriendly visitors to our skin – zits!
Ayurveda healers believe the antioxidant properties in garlic can
help heal acne scars and prevent new blemishes from forming.
At home:
You can apply fresh garlic juice directly onto a newly formed
pimple, leave on for a few hours to overnight and cleanse away with a
washcloth. If the smell offends you, soak peeled cloves in milk for an hour.
Store bought:
This Eminence Garlic and Tomato Masque combine two
great ingredients to combat acne and problematic skin issues.
EGG WHITES
Egg whites are praised for their health benefits, but currently
there is a lot of great information on their anti-aging benefits as well.
At home:
Used in a mask, egg whites can tighten and firm sagging skin. Whisk
the egg whites in a bowl and apply to skin. After 15 minutes minutes, skin will be
bright and refreshed.
Other benefits of egg whites include oil reduction and whitehead
removal. Now that’s what I like to hear!
Store bought:
SKINFOOD EGG WHITE PORE FOAM is a gentle cleanser that contains egg white extract to deeply cleanse and refine pores – for only $3 why not!

AVOCADO
This superfood fights aging and provides intense moisture for
dry skin, and can also help get rid of age spots while leaving pores free and
clear.
A face mask containing the fruit is all you need to benefit from its
healing properties.
At home:
Mash an Avocado and apply to your face for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse
thoroughly. You can also add honey
yogurt and/ or lemon juice to this super easy mask for added benefits.
Store bought:
FREEMAN FEELING BEAUTIFUL FACIAL CLAY MASK has Avocado and Oatmeal to moisturize
for lasting softness. Skin looks and feels clean and is soft to the touch - Perfect
for normal to combination skin.
BROWN SUGAR
Healthy, radiant skin begins with exfoliation, but there’s no need
to spend money on costly scrubs. Brown sugar granules clear away dead skin just
as well, if not better, than any drug store product.
At home:
Combine a half of a cup of brown sugar with a few tablespoons of
olive oil and water, pour the mixture in an empty jar and you’re good to go!
Use to exfoliate whenever and wherever your body needs it!
Store bought:
Deep Steep Sugar Scrub moisturizes and improves elasticity while improving
regeneration of skin cells. Its Sugar Scrub reigns supreme amongst exfoliants. Pure
brown sugar grains combined with Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Coconut Oil to
reveal silky, lightly fragranced and irresistibly touchable skin.
WASABI
Wasabi is known for being super-spicy, but it can also seriously
spice up your lips.
At home:
Apply a small amount of wasabi paste directly onto lips for a
seriously pumped up pout.
Cinnamon
Another alternative is Cinnamon, before applying your lip color, rub
a very small amount of moistened cinnamon (add a few drops of water to
cinnamon) on your lips to get that full, kissable look.
Store bought:
Although I couldn’t find anything that used actual wasabi in the
product, I did find DUWOPVENOM FLASH FOR LIPS, it uses pure essential oils of cinnamon, ginger, and
wintergreen to naturally stimulate the lips. Jojoba and avocado oils provide
intense moisture and shine.
