Not only has Dry Shampoo saved me time in the morning while
getting ready (especially when I tap the snooze button too many times), but I
often use it to add extra volume and texture to my hair.
While it can be quick and easy to use, it can be frustrating
to new users.
I wanted to put together some quick tips on how to properly
make the most out of this oil-absorbing, root-refreshing, style-extending
product.
Spray 30cm away from your roots
Get that ruler out and make sure you know how far that
really is, just kidding!
An easier way to tell is basically elbow length – hold your
arm straight out, bend at or just past the elbow and spray! This goes for
hairspray as well.
If you spray Dry Shampoo
too close to the scalp, you’ll get
too much build-up - too far away and it will disperse too much.
Helps Style Hair
One of my favorite things about dry shampoo is that it
serves many purposes.
If you have flat, limp hair like I do, try using a
volumizing Dry Shampoo that can add extra body and texture to the hair. My
favorite is Herbal
Essences Body Envy Dry Shampoo.
It still absorbs oil to freshen up hair between washes but
also leaves hair with touchable volume and bounce and it won’t leave your hair
sticky or stiff.
It’s great for adding body to for up-do’s, adding some extra
grip and texture to braids or loose waves.
Let it Absorb
If you are spraying your dry shampoo and immediately start massaging
and brushing—you might not be letting it do its job!
After applying to your roots in several sections, let it sit
for about 10 – 15 seconds to let the oil-absorbing powders work their magic.
Brush It Out
I like to brush my hair before getting into the shower. I
will give my scalp a good massage and then I brush my hair out really well. This
helps to get rid of excess product and gives hair a fresh, clean feel, free of
build-up.
Sometimes if I feel an extra amount of build-up, I give my
hair a blast of cool air with a hair dryer to really make sure there’s no
leftover residue.
Not Just for Oily Roots
Besides using it to add extra texture and body like I
already mentioned, some Dry Shampoo’s have scented formulas
like Cherry, Fruity or Vanilla to freshen up and
lightly fragrance your hair for in instant mood boost.
Do Gooder Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray by
Cake renews hair and leaving it feeling clean, revived and
volumized with a sweet vanilla scent.
If you color your hair and your roots are starting to show,
reach for Batiste Hint of Color Dry Shampoo
which helps blend in root re-growth and can stretch a few extra days between
salon sessions.
Don’t feel intimidated if you’ve had a bad experience with
Dry Shampoo
in the past. The more often you use it the more you’ll see the
great benefits.
Now that you know exactly what to do, Dry Shampoo is sure to
become one of you favorite products.
