With so much exposure to sunshine, heat and chlorine, most
of us are more aware about our hair care in the summer time, but the cooler
days need just as much attention sometimes a little extra attention.
Here are some tips on what you should be doing to prepare
and protect hair for the seasonal change to get your best fall hair ever:
More Moisture
The transition between Summer and Autumn is when it is so
vital to add a hair mask and switch up your shampoo and conditioner to help
your hair adjust to the change in temperature.
Yes To Coconut Ultra Moisture Conditioner
does exactly that, and it’s packed with nourishing oils which help smooth, restore
and hydrate hair to its natural gorgeousness. I find that it really prevents my
ends from drying out, and with ingredients such as Virgin Coconut Oil and Kukui
Seed Oil, it works wonders to my stressed out hair.
Another product which uses oils to keep the moisture levels
of your hair in top condition is the CHI STYLING BioSilk Hydrating TherapyConditioner– excellent for keeping hair consistently conditioned.
Use Beach Spray
If your hair has a natural wave, encourage the curl with the
help of sea salt or beach spray. While sea salt texture sprays are usually most
popular in the summer, they’re just as effective in the fall for playing up
your hair’s natural texture and adding volume.
Use an Anti-Humectant
Anti-humectants repel moisture from the atmosphere, which
makes them extremely effective for fighting frizz.
Most anti-humectants contain moisturizers and hair will be
less likely to reach out to the air seeking moisture, becoming frizzy.
There are lots of anti-humectant pomades, serums, and gels
out there— Bumble And Bumble and Pureology have great products.
You can go the natural route with Jojoba Oil.
While it provides softness and moisture, Jojoba Oil is a natural anti-humectant great for all hair types and for
fighting humidity because oil and water don’t mix!
Go Darker
Summer is synonymous with sun-kissed hair, but colder
weather means less time outside, and the highlights fade!
To switch your sun-kissed color into fall, you can color your
hair darker by a shade or two, either a full color or with some balayage lowlights,
which means the transition will happen more evenly.
Colored hair needs extra attention, make sure to use a
sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates contain
salt, which strip away moisture, and moisture loss is one of the main causes of
color fading.
Also be sure to use products made specifically for color
treated hair to prevent fading and dryness.
Deep Conditioning
Even though you condition your hair after every wash,
nothing quite works as good as deep conditioning.
Every week or two wash your hair with shampoo, squeeze out
the excess water and towel dry.
Take generous amounts of conditioner and apply it right to
the root of your hair.
Use a broad toothed comb and run it through your hair to
make sure the conditioner reaches roots to tips.
Clip hair up.
Leave the conditioner in for anywhere between 10 minutes to
an hour.
Rinse thoroughly and enjoy silky smooth hair.
