I am fairly new to using essential oils but have been
finding soooo many benefits to using the oils.
Besides using it in my Raindrop Essential Oil Diffuser to freshen up my apartment or
add some aromatherapy after a long day. I have used essential oils in my DIY
All Purpose Cleaner, to freshen up silk flowers, deodorize my upholstery, sore
foot soak, menstrual cramps, headaches, stiff joints, and so many more uses.
There are endless choices when it comes to buying essential
oils and for every oil, there are at least a dozen uses (I buy mine here!).
Here is a skincare use I have found to work amazing on my
acne!
Acne is caused by clogged pores that basically create an
infection, leading to the breakouts.
Maintaining clearer, healthier skin is the key to fighting
against acne.
There are many medications designed to help with acne but these
over the counter or prescription treatments are often incredibly expensive, can
irritate the skin, and may not always work.
How Essential Oils Can Help
Using Essential oils for acne, such as lavender and clary
sage, have the ability to alleviate stress, anxiety, fight insomnia, sleep
deprivation, and balance hormone levels.
They are also gentle on the skin and have a number of
benefits that go beyond fighting acne and promoting skin health - It’s good to
know you are not using harsh chemicals to treat your acne.
Essential oils have the power to kill bacteria on the skin
naturally.
Some essential oils such as lavender essential oil soothe
and protect the skin from irritation and stress.
Always Dilute Essential Oils When Applying to Directly to Your Skin
Essential oils are strong on their own and should be used
with caution when applying directly to your skin as it can cause skin
irritation.
It is highly recommended that you dilute the oil with a
carrier oil like Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut oil or Jojoba Oil.
Here are some great Essential oils to help acne:
Tea Tree Oil
This is one of the most powerful antiseptic essential oils.
Tea Tree Oil provides antibacterial and anti-fungal
qualities and can also reduce inflammation.
Use it by adding a few drops to Coconut or Almond oil to a
cotton pad, wipe acne flare-ups as you feel them occurring.
Oregano
Oregano is great for more than just seasoning food.
It is a natural antiseptic and can be used to spot treat
pimples as they occur.
Dilute with equal parts Oregano Essential oil and Coconut or
Almond oil.
Dab the mixture onto the trouble spot as needed.
Rosemary
Rosemary Essential Oil has strong antiseptic properties.
When used with a carrier oil, it can be used as a cleanser.
It can help to eliminate oily residue on the face while
easing the redness and tenderness from acne flare-ups.
Lavender
Lavender has a huge assortment of home remedies.
This oil is a great choice to fight acne because of its ability
to fight blemishes and reduce irritation on the skin.
It also has strong astringent properties.
Mix with Jojoba and Almond oil for a great essential oil
skin care treatment that works as a moisturizer and a cleanser.
Bergamot
Bergamot has antibacterial properties and a great citrus
scent and it is a perfect essential oil for controlling acne breakouts before
they happen.
Use with a carrier oil on problem areas to fight off flare-ups.
Clary Sage
Clary sage oil contains a compound called linalyl acetate,
which works to help reduce skin inflammation, alleviate skin irritation and
reduces the spread of bacteria.
Clary sage also curbs the growth and spread of bacteria,
alleviates feelings of stress and anxiety, and supports hormonal balance.
I bring this up because Restlessness and Insomnia are two
conditions associated with acne breakouts.
For a natural remedy to help with anxiety and stress, apply 5
drops of clary sage oil into a diffuser for a relaxing scent at home (I bought
my diffuser HERE!).
To kill bacteria that is clogging pores and causing acne, dilute
1–3 drops of clary sage oil with Jojoba or Coconut oil to the area of concern
by using a cotton ball and massage the mixture into the skin.
Juniper Berry
Juniper berry essential oil has natural antibacterial and
antimicrobial abilities, making it one of the most popular natural remedies for
fighting skin irritations and infections.
It also has detoxifying and stress-reducing properties that
protect the body against toxins that lead to acne.
Apply 2–3 drops with Coconut or Jojoba oil to the area of
concern.
Each of these Essential oils are a great choice to combat
acne.
It’s important to remember that results don’t happen
overnight and it may take time to see results.
It’s always good to be preventative and keep the skin clean
and free from oil and contaminants.
Test out different essential oils and find which works best
for you to improve your skin and maintain the healthiest appearance.
Remember to Go slow and use essential oils in moderation.
