Until recently I didn’t know much about eucalyptus essential
oil other than it was excellent at helping with a cold I could not shake but it
has so many benefits for the body and the home.
It is a great multitasking essential oil that needs to be
added to your collection.
The eucalyptus tree is native to Australia and once the oils
are extracted, the bark is used for paper making and the wood is used as fuel
and timber.
Here are some of my favorite benefits of Eucalyptus
essential oil.
Benefits for the Body
Respiratory Symptoms
Eucalyptus is a powerful natural decongestant, which makes
it perfect for helping to treat respiratory symptoms, it’s my go-to especially
when I have a cold, it is one of the most effective essential oils against respiratory
conditions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchitis,
sinusitis, the common cold, cough or the flu.
Eucalyptus essential oil improves
many respiratory conditions because it helps the immune system by providing
antioxidant protection improving respiratory circulation.
Eucalyptus makes it easier to breathe when the nose is
stuffed up or is running because it activates your nose’s cold receptors and when
you are feeling congested and unable to breath eucalyptus can help with getting
some sleep.
Adding a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil into a nebulizing diffuser can help to break up congestion, making it easier to expel
from the body.
Boosts Energy
Eucalyptus oil has stimulating, soothing and purifying
properties, which is why it can be used to boost energy and mental clarity.
It can help to clear your airways allowing more oxygen into
your lungs and relieve brain fog when you are feeling sluggish throughout the
day.

Soothes Muscle and Joint Pain
Eucalyptus essential oil is a stimulant that can help
increase blood circulation, providing pain relief.
When using in a diffuser, the natural analgesic and
anti-inflammatory can work to soothe pain and lower the swelling that causes the
body to feel sore.
Improves Earaches
Eucalyptus oil helps to unclog your respiratory tract and
has antimicrobial properties that help to clear up ear infection symptoms and
earaches.
These oils cannot be applied alone as it can burn or desensitize
the sensitive membranes found within the ear, dilute essential oils by mixing
them with a carrier oil like Olive oil or Jojoba oil.
Essential oils can be used in their pure form, but just not
directly in the ear, instead use a cotton ball dipped in warm olive oil, add a
drop or two of Eucalyptus oil to the cotton ball, and then tape the cotton ball
to your ear opening. Do not push the cotton ball in your ear canal because you
do not want the oil to seep into the ear canal, you only want to cover the ear
opening.
Helps Stop Lice Infestations
If you or a family member has ever had lice, you’ll know
what a nightmare it can be.
Not only do lice spread on the scalp, they also live on
surfaces to spread to other family members.
Lice are known to show some resistance to insecticide treatments,
which is why people are turning to natural alternatives.
Mix shampoo with 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of
tea tree oil and 1 teaspoon of eucalyptus oil. Apply to the hair and scalp. Cover
head with a tight-fitting shower cap. Wash off after an hour.
If the skin has been irritated by bites, add 2 drops of
chamomile to the shampoo mix to soothe the skin.
The combination of tea tree and eucalyptus oil is thought to
suffocate or numb the lice, making them easy to comb out.
Benefits for the Home
Natural Bug Repellent
Rather than using harsh bug sprays filled with harmful
chemicals, eucalyptus essential oil can work to keep those bugs away.
When used in a nebulizing diffuser, it can help to keep
insects from making your home their home too.
If you are outside, add the essential oil to a spray bottle
with water and spray around the area you are in when you want to keep mosquitos
away.
You can also dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil and
apply to the skin.
Air Purification
Many of us don’t get enough time in the outdoors, so we end
up breathing indoor air, basically breathing in pollutants you may not see or
smell.
When diffused, eucalyptus essential oil can help to clear
the air from microbes and fungi leaving you with pure air.
Natural Household Cleanser
I have found Eucalyptus essential oil works as an effective
and fresh natural household cleaner.
When adding it to my DIY All-purpose Cleaning Spray , it can be used to clean and disinfect
all surfaces within the home, including the kitchen and bathroom.
For those looking for alternative to harsh cleansers,
eucalyptus essential oil is a safe, fresh, effective, and natural alternative.
