2 Ingredient Homemade Hot Chocolate

For years, I was tied to the instant hot chocolate packets because they are convenient, but I never knew how easy it actually is to make hot chocolate on your own.

Now that I’ve discovered how to make homemade hot chocolate, using two ingredients I usually have in my pantry anyway, I’ll never go back to store bought mixes again.

This hot chocolate recipe is quick and easy, but it tastes more wonderful than a store bought mix.
All you need is milk and chocolate chips. That’s it!

Melt them together on the stove, and in a few short minutes, you have a homemade hot chocolate!

I love that it can be customized to fit everyone’s needs and tastes.
I use 2% milk but whole milk, almond milk, soy milk, or non-dairy milks can be used well.
I use semi-sweet chocolate chips but milk chocolate, dark chocolate chips or white chocolate chips can be used.
You can also add a little extra flavor by adding pure vanilla extract, peppermint extract, Espresso powder or for a more adult drink Whiskey, dark rum, or peppermint schnapps.
There are endless topping options, I like whipped cream with crushed chocolate but of course you can have marshmallows, chocolate drizzle, caramel and coarse salt.

This recipe makes one perfect cup but feel free to multiply as needed.

This recipe is so easy and delicious; you'll never buy a mix again!


Two Ingredient Hot Chocolate

Yield: 1 Cup
Total time: 5 minutes

 INGREDIENTS (multiply as needed)
1 cup milk
3 generous tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips
(Optional) Mix-ins
(Optional) Toppings

- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium high heat until steaming - small bubbles will form around the edges (do not let the milk boil!).
- Add the chocolate chips and let melt a few seconds, then whisk until smooth.
- Whisk in any desired mix-ins.
- Serve hot with desired toppings. 

Put on your fuzzy slippers and curl up with a steaming mug of easy homemade hot chocolate.
