From cleaning your makeup brushes to trying something new,
these are some new year goals you won’t abandon by the end of the month.
I usually start by coming up with a new workout regime, a
diet overhaul or having a “Dry January” and by the end of January it seems discouraging.
The last few years I have found that resolutions that
revolve around beauty are definitely easier for me to stick to.
Use the New Year as an opportunity to take on realistic and achievable
changes.
Whether you want to tweak your skincare routine, switch up
your look or make some time for self-care, Here are my beauty resolutions that
I know I won’t abandon by the end of the month.
Clean Makeup Brushes
This is one of those tasks that none of us want to do,
cleaning your brushes can be time consuming and if you are like me – a task
that you forget to do, but leaving the brushes dirty with bacteria will
increase breakouts and skin irritation.
Makeup brushes can be expensive, so cleaning them properly
is also a great way to protect an investment.
This January, I am going to regularly clean my brushes at
least once a week to rid them of bacteria and hopefully it will turn into a
routine.
Wash Face Everyday
While it can be tempting to reach for a facial wipe at the
end of a long day, they are convenient but long term use really doesn’t do much
for your complexion, so I’m going to switch them out for an everyday cleansing
routine and hopefully my skin will thank me in the long run.
Cleansing is essential when it comes to removing makeup and
pollutants at the end of the day.
The trick is to use an oily product to attract grease and
dirt from the skin, and then follow with a water-based product to eliminate
other obstacles like sweat and environmental dirt.
Repair Hair
I’m usually good at taking the time to repair my hair by
using hair masks and treatments but this past year hair care has definitely been
put to the side.
After weeks of washing, drying, curling and straightening
throughout party season, January is the perfect time to give the hair some
love.
Cutting back on heat-styling tools can help bring back some
life to hair and when you do use tools, use a heat protectant.
Using a nourishing hair mask regularly will help keep hair
in good health and some treatments only take a few minutes – and from the
comfort of your own home.
Switch up Makeup Colors
I always seem to fall into a monotonous makeup routine of
using nudes and pinks, but sometimes it pays to push the boundaries.
While it might seem scary at first, try one new thing each
month, a bold makeup trend, a different scent or wearing a straight style
instead of curled– will help you step out of your comfort zone and maybe even
find a new product or color you will love.
Don’t forget SPF
We all know we should be wearing sunscreen, but it’s often a
step that gets overlooked in our beauty routines.
Besides offering protection against skin cancer, it’s the
best and most effective product for preventing premature wrinkles.
It’s a product that should be used year-round, and sunscreen
formulas have come a long way since the greasy, pore-blocking creams - some
double as a flawless makeup base, see how to sneak sunscreen into your beauty routine.
